A good risk analysis offers an insight into the Performance Level (PL) that a safety solution must comply with. This is also referred to as the ‘Required Performance Level’. The previously mentioned technical file must - in accordance with norm EN-ISO 13849-1 - use a PL calculation too demonstrate that the selected safety solution actually meets this so-called Required Performance Level.

Our experience shows that many engineers still have a lot of difficulties when implementing the PL. Despite using of PLC and PC systems (with or without remote I/O), and regarding these systems as reliable, employees still encounter situations where machines begin moving unexpectedly or even start up. Possibly with major consequences. Our CE consultants are experienced in performing practical PL calculations for all situations.
